Safe Water Starts Here

Fred M. Luth & Sons has helped build St. Louis for over 100 years. Today, we’re partnering with American Water to replace outdated lead and galvanized water service lines efficiently, safely, and with minimal disruption.

Why Replace Now?

Homes built before 1989 may have lead service lines, which can impact water quality, especially for children and pregnant women. Under the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule, all lead service line materials must be identified and reported by 2027. If your home qualifies, replacement is often the best way to reduce potential exposure, and in many cases, it comes at no direct cost during scheduled utility work.

Illustration of utility-owned vs customer-owned portions of a service line: From the house to the shut off valve/meter, the pipes are customer-owned. From the shut off valve/meter out to the street (including the gooseneck and water main), the pipes are owned by the utility company.
Lead Water Service Line Replacement

What to Expect

  • Inspection & Coordination: We’ll verify your service line material and coordinate directly with utility partners.
  • Replacement: If needed, we replace the full line up to the first indoor fitting, using trenchless methods whenever possible.
  • Restoration: Our in-house crews handle cleanup, including yards, sidewalks, and driveways.
  • Follow-Up: In some areas, your water provider may offer free water testing after work is complete.
